有三个简单句,分别如下.
A search party were armed with the new machine.
A search party came into the cave.
A search party hoped to find buried treasure.
现在将它们组合成一个复合句.
我的分析是,
1.be armed with the new machine与A search party是被动关系,相当于
是一个时间状语的概念,
2.hope to find buried treasure与A search party不就是他们进这个洞
的目的吗?
所以,改为非谓语复合句为:
Armed with the new machine, a search party came into the cave
to hope to find buried treasure.
但是,NCE第二册55课的第6行却不是这样的,它的是:
Armed with the new machine, a search party came into the cave
hoping to find buried treasure.
1)请着重讲解一下,为什么要用"hoping to find buried treasure"这个现在分词形式来作句子的目地状语,而不用不定式;2)如果这个现在分词短语不是作目的状语,那又是什么句子成分?

2）进入洞的目的是to find buried treasure, hoped 不能算在内，“hoped"是came into 的并列谓语，以现在分词的形式出现的原因是为了使句子变成只有一个主句的复合句。
也可以说是 they hoped to find buried treasure when coming into the cave.
